SAVANNAH, Georgia, February 19, 2015 — Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. announced today that the Gulfstream G650ER has once again demonstrated its ability to go the distance by completing the farthest flight in its history.

On January 22, a G650ER, owned by Steve Wynn, CEO of Wynn Resorts Limited, flew 8,010 nautical miles/14,835 kilometers nonstop, traveling from Singapore Changi Airport to McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas with four passengers, including Wynn, and three crew members on board. The trip took 14 hours and 32 minutes at an average speed of Mach 0.85, with tail winds of 76 knots. The G650ER landed with fuel in excess of the National Business Aviation Association instrument flight rules reserves.

“This flight demonstrates how powerful an aircraft the G650ER is,” said Larry Flynn, president, Gulfstream. “To be able to travel distances like this is remarkable and truly captures the essence of this aircraft. Its range and speed are just two of the many reasons for its success and will continue to be the driving forces behind the demand for this aircraft.”

At Mach 0.90, the G650ER can travel 6,400 nm/11,853 km. Its max speed is Mach 0.925. The G650ER is powered by twin Rolls-Royce BR725 engines.

“The G650ER is a game-changer,” said Wynn. “It’s a vital business tool that gives me peace of mind thanks to its superior range, speed, cabin comfort and enhanced safety features. I fly around the world for my business, and this aircraft takes me there. Gulfstream continuously goes above and beyond; the proof is in the performance.”

Wynn was one of the first G650 customers to receive a G650 when the aircraft entered service in 2012. He was also one of the first to upgrade to the extended range G650 when Gulfstream began offering the option last year. The aircraft has accumulated more than 1,115 flight hours and 545 landings.

SAVANNAH, Georgia, August 11, 2014 —Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. opened the Latin American Business Aviation Exhibition & Conference (LABACE) by announcing its fleet in Latin America has grown by nearly 70 percent since 2009. The company has its in-production fleet — the Gulfstream G650, G550, G450, G280 and G150 — at the annual air show in São Paulo.

“I am very proud to say that one of every four business jets based in Latin America is a Gulfstream,” said Larry Flynn, president, Gulfstream. “That figure translates to nearly 180 aircraft.  Five years ago, we had 105 aircraft here. Such remarkable growth, in a relatively short amount of time, is a testament to our aircraft’s value in Latin America as a tool for conducting business. That is very gratifying for us as a company.”

The country with the largest Gulfstream fleet in Latin America is Mexico, with nearly 80 aircraft based there. Also, there are more than 30 company aircraft that operate out of Venezuela. Gulfstream’s popularity in Latin America is particularly evident in the country with the region’s largest size, population and economy — Brazil. Since 2009, the Gulfstream in-country fleet has nearly tripled, going from 14 to 40 aircraft. Nearly half of the large-cabin business jets based in Latin America are manufactured by Gulfstream, including 30 percent of the large-cabin jets in Brazil.

The demand for Gulfstream aircraft in Latin America was the catalyst for establishing a company-owned maintenance facility in Sorocaba, Brazil, near São Paulo in June 2012. The service center is located at Bertram Luiz Leupolz Airport. In July of this year, company personnel moved into a new, larger building at the same airport.

The nearly 38,000-square-foot/3,530-square-meter facility, which includes a 34,768-sq-f/3,230-sq-m hangar, has a team of nearly 20 employees and is fully operational.

“We have received substantial positive feedback from customers about how much better our location is at the Sorocaba airport,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream Product Support. “A more accessible hangar means faster induction and maintenance on the front end and quicker return-to-service times on the back end.”

Gulfstream’s Sorocaba site is overseen by general manager Adriano Andrade. On-site departments include Maintenance Operations, Materials, Quality Assurance/Quality Control and Finance/Accounting.

The Sorocaba service center, assisted by company personnel from other sites, supported operators during the recent FIFA World Cup in Brazil and has begun preparations for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

SAVANNAH, Ga., May 20, 2013 — Gulfstream Aerospace Corp.’s G280 aircraft recently traveled to Africa as part of the super mid-sized business jet’s yearlong world tour. En route, the aircraft set three city-pair records, including one from Luton, England, to Lagos, Nigeria.

The aircraft left London Luton Airport at 7:44 a.m. local time with two passengers on board. It landed at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos 6 hours and 32 minutes later. Its average speed for the 2,948-nm (5,460 km) flight was Mach 0.81.

The aircraft set two additional city-pair records during the African leg of the tour, including one from Libreville, Gabon, to Casablanca, Morocco, and another from Casablanca to Amsterdam. The aircraft traveled the 2,755-nm (5,102-km) between Libreville and Casablanca in 6 hours and 11 minutes at an average speed of Mach 0.82. It covered the 1,344 nm (2,489 km) between Casablanca and Amsterdam in 3 hours and 3 minutes, with an average speed of Mach 0.82.

“With more than 20 city-pair records on its resume, the G280 has proven itself to be a super mid-sized powerhouse, capable of flying farther faster than the competition,” said Scott Neal, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, Gulfstream. “The aircraft offers unprecedented range, speed, safety and amenities.”

Since entering service in December 2012, the G280 demonstrator has visited 109 cities in 36 countries. It has accumulated more than 400 flight hours and covered more than 132,000 nm (244,464 km).

The G280 is powered by twin Honeywell HTF7250G engines, each of which provides 7,624 pounds of thrust. These fuel-efficient engines feature reduced emissions, longer maintenance intervals and decreased noise levels. They also offer excellent climb performance, propelling the G280 to FL410 in less than 20 minutes. The aircraft has a maximum range of 3,600 nm (6,667 km) at Mach 0.80.

The three city-pair records are pending confirmation with the National Aeronautic Association.

Gulfstream celebrated a milestone for the fleet leaders of its mid-sized G150 aircraft. The two G150s, which are owned and operated by a U.S.-based multinational energy company, recently combined to surpass 10,000 flight hours. This achievement was accomplished without incident and took only five years.

“We are very pleased that the G150 has been such a reliable workhorse for our customers,” said Larry Flynn, president, Gulfstream. “The two G150s that lead the fleet continue to demonstrate the superior dispatch reliability and availability rates that our company takes great pride in. To reach 10,000 flight hours in just five years means these aircraft have flown an average of more than 83 hours a month. To pull those flight hours off takes a fine-tuned effort from the operator and our product support organization.”

The G150, which entered service in August 2006, has the best range, speed and fuel efficiency in the mid-size class of business jets. Gulfstream’s fleet of 100 G150s comprises operators in the U.S., Canada, Central America, South America, Europe and Asia. 

The fleet has accumulated more than 130,000 flight hours and made more than 90,000 landings. The G150 has an availability rate of 91.96 percent and a dispatch reliability rate of 99.83 percent.

Powered by a pair of Honeywell TFE731-40AR engines, the G150 has a range of 3,000 nautical miles (5,556 km) at Mach 0.75. It is also distinguished by its advanced avionics suite and quiet, comfortable cabin that seats up to eight passengers.

The G150 is certified to meet the steep-approach landing criteria at several airports worldwide, including London City. It is certified in more than 40 countries, including the U.S., Brazil, Canada, China, England, Germany, Israel, Mexico and Switzerland.

Gulfstream’s G280 aircraft received type certification today from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).  The certification recognizes that the super mid-sized aircraft demonstrates compliance with EASA airworthiness and environmental requirements.  It is one of the final steps required for the G280 to be registered in a European Union country.

“Getting EASA certification is an important milestone for the G280,” said Larry Flynn, president, Gulfstream.  “This aircraft is the most fuel-efficient and most comfortable in its class, and it offers unprecedented range for its size.  It is the only super mid-sized business jet that can reliably fly nonstop from London to New York. That feature is very important to operators.”

The G280, a joint effort between Gulfstream and Israel Aerospace Industries, earned its type certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Civil Aviation Authority of Israel on Aug. 30, 2012.  It entered service on Nov. 13, 2012.

The aircraft’s range is 3,600 nautical miles (6,667 km) at Mach 0.80. Its balanced field length is 210 feet less than originally announced, which enables it to take off from runways of 4,750 feet (1,448 m) or less.  That is an improvement of more than 1,300 feet compared to the G200, the aircraft the G280 replaces.  The G280 has a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.85.
 
Advanced technology is also part of the G280’s appeal.  The PlaneView280™ cockpit, the most advanced flight deck in its class, improves safety through reduced pilot workload and improved situational awareness.  The G280 is also environmentally efficient, burning less fuel and producing fewer emissions than other super mid-sized aircraft.  It is quiet, with certified noise levels 15.8 decibels below FAA Stage 4 requirements.

With its spacious cabin, the G280 can provide seating for up to 10 in two living areas.  Passengers have in-flight access to the baggage compartment. The Gulfstream Cabin Management System enables them to easily control the cabin environment and high-definition entertainment equipment with a handheld device such as an iPod Touch.

Gulfstream ‘ss new best-in-class G280 aircraft recently set 15 new city-pair speed records as part of the company’s reliability demonstration program. The 250-hour internal testing program, among the most extensive voluntary reliability programs ever implemented by Gulfstream, served to enhance fleet reliability, enrich pilot training and improve customer readiness.

“The Gulfstream reliability demonstration program incorporates pilot check rides, maintenance on auxiliary power units, engine run qualifications, technical operations, publications validations and basic servicing and handling at typical fixed-base operators,” said Mark Burns, president, Product Support. “This is just one more way we are going above and beyond for our customers, ensuring they have the most reliable and high-performing aircraft.”

Of the 15 new city-pair speed records set as part of the program, the most notable were a flight from Aspen, Colo., to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and one from Honolulu to Savannah. The super mid-sized aircraft has established 22 speed records since setting its first in May.

“Two of these new speed records are particularly significant because they demonstrate the G280’s capability to reach the East Coast from Aspen and to travel an exceptional distance,” said Scott Neal, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, Gulfstream. “The G280 continues to prove its tremendous reliability, range, speed and performance for our customers.”

The G280 flew from Aspen-Pitken County Airport to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in 3 hours and 21 minutes. It flew 1,640 nautical miles (3,038 km) at an average cruise speed of Mach 0.84. On board were demo pilots Santiago Koritschoner, Brian Erickson and Stephanie Ruyle.

Also in November, the G280 flew from Honolulu to Savannah in 8 hours and 19 minutes, a total of 4,124 nautical miles (7,638 km) at an average speed of Mach 0.80. On board were Brian Dickerson, senior production test pilot; Scott Evans, engineering test pilot; and Scott Blouin, avionics and electrical technician.

The city-pair speed records have been certified by the National Aeronautic Association, the official record keeper for U.S. aviation, and forwarded to the Federation Aeronautique Internationale in Switzerland for approval as world records.

The G280 is certified to fly 3,600 nm (6,667 km) with four passengers at Mach 0.80 with NBAA IFR reserves, some 200 nm farther than the company announced at the program’s launch in 2008. In addition to more range, the aircraft’s balanced field length has been reduced from 4,960 feet (1,512 m) to 4,750 feet (1,448 m). This field length is an improvement of more than 1,300 feet compared to the G200, the aircraft the G280 replaces. The aircraft entered into service on Nov. 14, 2012.

SAVANNAH, Ga., January 3, 2013 — Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. recently named Steve Cass vice president, Communications. Cass will oversee internal and external communications at Gulfstream, reporting to Scott Neal, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing.

“In today’s 24-7 news cycle, it is imperative for Gulfstream to have an experienced, visionary leader at the helm of Communications,” said Neal. “Steve brings 25 years of military and business aviation experience to this role, including 15 years of representing Gulfstream to customers, dignitaries, media and industry.”

Prior to being named vice president of Communications, Cass worked at Gulfstream as director, Sales Support. In that position he was responsible for coordinating activities at the Savannah Sales and Design Center; the Sales Development and Sales Engineering groups, where he supported new aircraft sales worldwide; and the Technical Marketing group, where he assisted with new product development programs and product enhancements.

Since joining Gulfstream in 1992, Cass served in Preliminary Design Engineering, where he worked on the GV program, various aircraft design studies, special mission aircraft, sales support and world record analyses. In 1998, he became manager of Technical Marketing, overseeing a team to develop and present technical and competitive information for use in the marketing and selling of Gulfstream aircraft and supporting the sales team worldwide.

Before coming to Gulfstream, Cass worked for five years at Rockwell International in aircraft conceptual design. He is a Leadership Savannah graduate and an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He graduated in 1987 from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in aerospace engineering.

ORLANDO, Fla., October 29, 2012 – Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. announced today that its ultra-long-range, ultra-large-cabin G650 aircraft offers even better performance than originally announced. The improvements affect the aircraft’s range at high speed and takeoff distance, giving operators increased flexibility for ultra-long-range missions.

“The improved performance of the G650 makes an already best-in-class aircraft even better,” said Larry Flynn, president, Gulfstream Aerospace. “Operators are gaining a distinct advantage with these improvements: They’re going farther faster and requiring less runway. If business jets are time machines, then the G650 is the ultimate in business travel.”

The G650’s range at its high-speed cruise of Mach 0.90 is now 6,000 nautical miles (11,112km), a 1,000-nm (1,852-km) increase over the original target of 5,000 nm (9,260 km). The additional capability makes city pairs such as Tokyo to New York, New York to Dubai, Shanghai to London and Moscow to Los Angeles possible at speeds faster than any other business jet.

The G650 can complete 6,000-nm missions in less than 12 hours. “The G650’s flight time for a 6,000-nm mission at Mach 0.90 would be 40 minutes less than the same mission flown on a G550,” said Pres Henne, senior vice president, Programs, Engineering and Test, Gulfstream. “When every minute counts, a 40-minute savings is considerable.”

The G650’s takeoff balanced field length decreased to 5,858 feet (1,786 m) from the original 6,000 feet (1,829 m) at the aircraft’s maximum takeoff weight of 99,600 pounds (45,179 kg). This improvement allows the G650 to fly farther from demanding, short runways. The G650 has a maximum cruise speed of Mach 0.925, making it the fastest certified civilian aircraft in production. Each of its two Rolls-Royce BR725 A1-12 engines provides 16,900 pounds of thrust, yet the aircraft burns less fuel and produces fewer emissions compared to other aircraft in the class.

The G650 received its type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration on Sept. 7, 2012. Deliveries of the aircraft are scheduled to begin before year-end.

National Business Aviation Association Meeting & Convention in Orlando from Oct. 30-Nov. 1.

Gulfstream’s static display at Orlando Executive Airport will include the G650, G550, G450,

G280 and G150.

The company’s exhibit in the North Hall of the Orlando County Convention Center will focus

on its wide-ranging product support initiatives. Gulfstream’s 7,200-square-foot convention

center exhibit will feature products and services that keep Gulfstream at the forefront of product

support. These include:

• The Gulfstream Network, an on-location version of the Savannah-based “Studio G,”

Ultra-Long-Range Aircraft Sets New Standard For Aviation

SAVANNAH, Ga., September 7, 2012 — Gulfstream Aerospace Corp.’s ultra-large-cabin, ultra-long-range Gulfstream G650 business-jet aircraft received a type certificate today from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The certification verifies the airworthiness of the aircraft’s design. Gulfstream expects to deliver the first fully outfitted G650 business jets to customers before year-end. The company has received more than 200 orders for the aircraft.

“The G650 is a superlative aircraft with the most technologically advanced flight deck in business aviation and the largest, most comfortable cabin in its class. In short, the G650 speaks to all that is good about business aviation: safety, security, flexibility, comfort, and capability,” said Larry Flynn, president, Gulfstream. “We designed the G650 with significant input from our Advanced Technology Customer Advisory Team, and we’re extremely proud of what our entire organization has accomplished with this aircraft.”

Exceptional Systems

The G650 offers a full three-axis, fly-by-wire system that delivers a number of benefits, including flight-envelope protection, passenger comfort, increased redundancy and reduced maintenance. The system is the result of extensive testing, leading to a redundant fly-by-wire system that exceeds certification requirements. It has a separate and dedicated backup flight-control computer that provides an additional level of safety.

To ensure optimum system performance, the G650 uses PlaneConnectHTMTM. This Aircraft Health and Trend Monitoring System provides near-real-time aircraft condition monitoring by recording up to 10,000 predefined parameters, including high priority Crew Advisory System (CAS) events and engine health data. The system transmits that information to the operator’s maintenance department with an optional copy to Gulfstream Technical Operations. Gulfstream can, if necessary, request additional data from the plane without any crew interaction. All of the data can be analyzed to identify systems’ condition status, which allows for exceptionally fast maintenance turnaround times and the ability to predict fleet maintenance trends.

 

The PlaneViewTM Cockpit

The G650 is equipped with the most advanced flight deck in general aviation, PlaneView II. The cockpit includes four 14-inch, adaptive, liquid crystal displays; three PlaneBook® subscriptions; a standby multi-function controller that combines current display controller functionality with standby flight instruments; automatic descent mode; wide area augmentation system/localizer performance with vertical guidance (WAAS-LPV), future air navigation system (FANS) 1/A; controller-pilot datalink communications (CPDLC); automatic dependent surveillance-contract (ADS-C); and a fully automatic, three-dimensional scanning weather radar with an integral terrain database for efficient ground-clutter elimination.

In addition, the G650 uses state-of-the-art vision systems to improve pilot situational awareness and flight safety. These standard systems include the Gulfstream Enhanced Vision System (EVS II), the Synthetic Vision-Primary Flight Display (SV-PFD) and the Head-Up Display (HUD II).

 “Working together with our supplier partners, we’ve been able to provide a level of safety and situational awareness heretofore unseen in business aviation,” said Pres Henne, senior vice president, Programs, Engineering and Test, Gulfstream.

 

Cabin Environment

Comfort figures prominently into the G650. The unfinished aircraft cabin measures 102 inches wide and 77 inches high, providing for a longer living area, more seat recline, expanded leg room and increased stateroom capabilities.

The G650’s comfortable and productive cabin environment is the result of a cabin altitude of 4,850 feet at FL510 and 3,300 feet at FL410, which reduces fatigue, increases mental alertness and enhances productivity. The G650’s new 16 cabin windows are the largest in the industry, providing for even more natural light and visually expanding the aircraft’s already spacious interior.

The Gulfstream Cabin Management System serves as the hub of the cabin network. This Gulfstream-designed and -controlled system allows for digital control of the cabin systems, including high-definition audio and video components. The passenger control units are loaded onto an iPod Touch® and provide the floor plan of the aircraft. Intuitive controls are provided for lighting, temperature, entertainment equipment, attendant call and other cabin functions, including the Gulfstream CabinView Passenger Flight Information System.

The cabin adheres to Gulfstream’s Cabin Essential design philosophy. This means the cabin systems (lighting, power, cabin control, cabin entertainment, and the water and waste systems) are designed with redundancy that minimizes the risk of losing cabin functionality.

 

Program Milestones
Gulfstream announced the G650 on March 13, 2008, five years after it began designing the business jet. The announcement, witnessed by more than 7,000 employees, customers and suppliers, took place in the new G650 manufacturing building at Gulfstream’s headquarters in Savannah, Ga.

The G650 rolled out under its own power on Sept. 30, 2009, and flew for the first time nearly two months later, on Nov. 25, 2009.

 Over the next 35 months, seven flight-test aircraft were involved in the flight-test program, accumulating more than 3,889 hours over 1,181 flights.

The G650 demonstrated its exceptional high-speed, fuel-efficient cruising capabilities on May 2, 2010, when it flew at its maximum operating Mach number of 0.925 for the first time. It achieved high-speed cruise on October 2010, when a test aircraft flew a 5,000-nautical-mile (9,260 km) closed circuit at Mach 0.90 over the Atlantic Ocean in 9 hours and 45 minutes.

In February 2011, the G650 flew from Burbank to Savannah, a distance of more than 1,900 miles (3,545 km), in just 3 hours and 26 minutes. The aircraft accomplished the mission at speeds between Mach 0.91 and 0.92 with a brief segment at the aircraft’s maximum operating Mach number of 0.925. The trip set a city-pair speed record and was named a most memorable flight for speed over a recognized course by the National Aeronautic Association.

The aircraft received a provisional type certificate from the FAA on Nov. 18, 2011.

The aircraft made its first trans-Atlantic crossing on May 12 en route to the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition in Geneva. The G650 flew 3,780 nautical miles (7,000 km) squawk-free in just 6 hours and 55 minutes, setting a city-pair speed record.

“Receiving this type certificate is a testament to the hard work, dedication and ingenuity of the Gulfstream team and our many supplier partners,” Henne said. “We knew the G650 was going to be an incredible aircraft, and it is.”

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp.’s super mid-sized Gulfstream G280 recently set an unconfirmed city-pair speed record from Paris to White Plains, N.Y., making the flight in 7 hours, 40 minutes. Official recognition of this city-pair speed record by the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) is pending.

The G280, which is nearing certification and entry-into-service later this year, took off from Paris Le Bourget Airport on May 17 and flew nonstop to Westchester County Airport in White Plains, N.Y., at an average speed of Mach 0.80 against an average 32-knot headwind.

At maximum takeoff weight, the aircraft climbed to 43,000 feet in 22 minutes. The aircraft landed with an excess of NBAA IFR fuel reserves.

Piloting the G280 were Brett Rundle, chief pilot, mid-cabin; Chip Leonard, senior international captain, mid-cabin; and Butch Allen, senior production test pilot. On board the aircraft were Jeanette Brewer, manager of flight crew operations, and three additional passengers.

Gulfstream confirmed in October 2011 that the G280 would perform better than originally promised at the program’s public launch in 2008. Following extensive flight testing, Gulfstream demonstrated that the G280 flies 3,600 nm (6,667 km) with four passengers at Mach 0.80 with NBAA IFR reserves.

In addition to more range, the aircraft offers a shorter balanced field length. Its balanced field length has been reduced from 4,960 feet (1,512 m) to 4,750 feet (1,448 m). This field length is an improvement of more than 1,300 feet compared to the G200 that the G280 replaces.

Large-Cabin, Ultra-Long Range Aircraft Surpasses 450,000 Landings

SAVANNAH, Ga., May 13, 2012 — Nearly 15 years after its entry-into-service, Gulfstream Aerospace Corp.’s first ultra-long range business jet – the Gulfstream GV – has surpassed one million flight hours.

“This milestone reflects the safety, performance and reliability of these aircraft,” said Pres Henne, senior vice president, Programs, Engineering and Test, Gulfstream.

The GV remains an extremely reliable aircraft, currently operating at an NBAA dispatch reliability rate of 99.82. Over the past 15 years, the GV in-service fleet has completed more than 458,000 takeoffs and landings. The GV fleet leader has flown more than 16,100 flight hours and completed more than 7,400 landings.

The GV rolled out in September 1995 and was manufactured simultaneously alongside the GIV-SP.  Within a few months of the GV’s first delivery in June 1997, its development team was awarded the 1997 Robert J. Collier Trophy, the highest honor in aeronautics and astronautics in North America.

The GV was the launch aircraft for the BR710 engine by what was then BMW/Rolls-Royce, now wholly owned by Rolls-Royce. The engine was the first member of the very successful BR700 engine family. New technologies made it very light and fuel efficient with an excellent take-off and climb performance.

“Rolls-Royce congratulates Gulfstream on this milestone for the GV, the first aircraft to be powered by our BR710 engine,” said Scott Shannon, executive vice president, Customer Business, Civil Small and Medium Engines, Rolls-Royce. “The GV has delivered outstanding performance and reliability and we are proud to have played our part in its success.”

A total of 193 GVs were manufactured. The aircraft has been certified in 55 countries, including 31 European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) countries. The holder of more than 60 world aviation records, the GV can fly 6,500 nautical miles non-stop, cruise at speeds up to Mach 0.885 and reach altitudes of 51,000 feet, well above commercial traffic.

The robust construction, versatility and reliability of the Gulfstream V make it highly desirable for use as a special mission aircraft. For example, GVs are used for weather research, electronic intelligence, medical evacuation and maritime patrol. The GV also serves the U.S. Air Force and presidential fleet under the C-37A designation.

GULFSTREAM G280 RECEIVES PROVISIONAL TYPE CERTIFICATE FROM FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION AND CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY OF ISRAEL

Deliveries Scheduled For 2012

SAVANNAH, Ga., March 2, 2012 — Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. announced today that the Gulfstream G280 has received a provisional type certificate (PTC) from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). It obtained a PTC from the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI) on Dec. 29, 2011.

The principal remaining item required before full type certificates are issued by the FAA and CAAI is an update to the software for the aircraft’s state-of-the-art avionics. Gulfstream expects to receive full type certification from both later this year.

“The G280 will be the fastest, largest, most comfortable aircraft in its class, and we are very pleased with its performance throughout the flight-test program,” said Larry Flynn, president, Gulfstream. “With these certificates in hand, we are now able to move forward in preparation for customer deliveries later this year, as scheduled.”

When delivered, the G280 will exceed the performance specifications outlined when the program was publicly announced in October 2008. The aircraft’s range is 3,600 nautical miles (6,667 km) at Mach 0.80, an increase of 200 nautical miles over original projections. Its balanced field length is 210 feet less than originally announced, allowing it to take off from runways of 4,750 feet (1,448 m) or less. That’s an improvement of more than 1,300 feet compared to the aircraft it replaces, the G200.

The three G280 aircraft in the flight-test program have flown more than 1,845 hours during more than 685 flights, while the fatigue test article (F1) has completed more than 14,300 of 40,000 cycles.

Additional achievements include the successful completion of wet runway, crosswind and maximum energy brake testing.

Serial Number (S/N) 2003, the third aircraft to join the flight-test program, has finished the tests required of it for type certification. That aircraft will now be transitioned to the testing of optional avionics features, including the Head-Up Display (HUD II) and Enhanced Vision System (EVS II).

S/N 2004, the first production aircraft, was outfitted and painted last year for an appearance at the 2011 National Business Aviation Association Convention & Meeting in Las Vegas. It is undergoing final upgrades in anticipation of its delivery later this year.

PTCs have been common in general aviation programs over the past 15 years. Both the Gulfstream V and the Gulfstream G550 were issued PTCs before receiving full certification. The Gulfstream G650 received PTC from the FAA in November 2011.

250th Business Jet Set for December Delivery

Capping a 14-year production run, the last super mid-size Gulfstream G200 business jet – the 250th – has rolled off the production line inDallas. It will be replaced in the Gulfstream fleet by the all-new large-cabin, mid-range Gulfstream G280, which is scheduled to enter service in the first part of 2012.

The G200 was the first super mid-size business jet to enter the marketplace. It rolled out in 1997 and was certified by the Federal Aviation Administration in 1998. Seven years ago today, Gulfstream delivered the 100th G200.

With a cabin width of 7 feet, 2 inches (2.184 m) and a cabin height of 6 feet, 3 inches (1.905 m), the G200 has one of the largest cabins in its class. To date, the aircraft has been certified in 18 countries and has a dispatch reliability rate in excess of 99 percent. The fleet has flown more than 581,000 flight hours and completed more than 351,000 take-offs and landings.

Originally introduced as the “Galaxy” by Galaxy Aerospace (which was acquired by Gulfstream in 2001), the G200 was manufactured by Israel Aircraft Industries in Tel Aviv and then flown to Gulfstream’s Mid-Cabin Completions Center in Dallas for interior outfitting and paint. The last G200 is scheduled for customer delivery later this month.

The G200 set the standard for the new super mid-size category and quickly established an important market niche. It became a mainstay aircraft for NetJets and many corporate operators. It also opened new markets for Gulfstream inChina,Braziland elsewhere.

“The G200 took the basic cabin dimensions of a large-cabin aircraft and made them available to a broader market by offering a shortened eight- to 10-place, two-seating-area layout with solid transcontinental U.S. range,” said Stan Dixon, vice president, Mid-Cabin Programs, Gulfstream. “It led the category for its time, as will the G280 going into the future.”

The G280 offers the largest cabin and the longest range at the fastest speed in its class. The business jet is capable of traveling 3,600 nm (6,667 km) at Mach 0.80 and has a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.85. With an initial cruise altitude of 41,000 feet (12,497 m), the G280 can climb to a maximum altitude of 45,000 feet (13,716 m). Its 3,600-nautical-mile range means the G280 can fly nonstop fromNew YorktoLondonor fromLondontoDubai.

The G280 features an all-new, advanced transonic wing design that has been optimized for high-speed cruise and improved takeoff performance. At maximum takeoff weight, the G280 has a balanced field length of 4,750 feet.

While G200 production has ended, the product support organization will ensure adequate parts, tooling, sustaining engineering and people are available to continue providing Gulfstream’s industry-leading product support for the worldwide G200 fleet.

Additionally, the company has furnished 200 synthetic vision systems and more than 100 enhanced navigation systems. The deliveries solidify the manufacturer’s technological leadership position in the business-aviation industry. Gulfstream was the first original equipment manufacturer to get Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification of synthetic vision in 2008. The FAA certified Gulfstream’s enhanced navigation system in 2010. “These milestones reflect the tremendous appeal of these products, which offer a number of benefits to operators including improved safety, enhanced reliability, reduced pilot workload and increased situational awareness,” said Pres Henne, senior vice president, Programs, Engineering and Test, Gulfstream. “Gulfstream’s tradition of excellence and innovation continues with PlaneView II, the advanced flight deck on the all-new Gulfstream G650.” Gulfstream reached the 500th PlaneView mark with the delivery of the 209th large-cabin, long-range G450 aircraft. PlaneView First delivered in 2003 on a G550, PlaneView, featuring Honeywell Primus Epic avionics, presents information in a user-friendly format with large displays and easy-to-use software. It includes Gulfstream’s Cursor Control Device (CCD), which allows pilots to retrieve flight plans, maps, charts and checklists by way of point-and-click, scrolling and push-button operations. The modular system is designed to evolve as new technologies arise, with easily upgradeable components and software. Synthetic Vision PlaneView also includes Synthetic Vision – Primary Flight Display (SV-PFD), Gulfstream’s synthetic vision system. The system is standard on the G650 and optional on other large-cabin Gulfstream aircraft. Gulfstream SV-PFD improves situational awareness and safety by generating a three-dimensional image of the world outside the cockpit. It integrates data from the onboard terrain database with the aircraft’s position, altitude and heading to create a synthesized picture that is projected on the primary flight displays. This allows pilots to view major landmarks throughout the world and the aircraft’s position relative to them, thereby improving terrain and obstacle awareness. Enhanced Navigation The Enhanced Navigation option is part of the Certification Foxtrot upgrade for PlaneView-equipped, large-cabin Gulfstream aircraft. The system prepares aircraft for the next generation of air traffic control with electronic terminal charts that have been certified as paperless; enhanced Global Positioning System accuracy via the Wide Area Augmentation System; and Future Air Navigation System (FANS1/A) Controller-Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC).
